Mahonia x media 'Winter Sun'
'Winter Sun' Oregon grape

Superb winter fragrance. This evergreen shrub has sweetly-scented yellow flowers in early and mid winter - December and January, just when we need them most. It grows well in drier than average soils, and reaches a height of up to 2-3 metres and 1 metre wide - it is best left unclipped. An excellent plant for city garden where drier-than-average soil makes it a tough place for some plants. It has glossy, dark green, holly-like like leaves. The flowers are followed by dark purple berries. Grow in shade or dappled sunlight out of strong winds.  2L container.

Malus 'Egremont Russet'
Apple 'Egremont Russet'

This is an apple variety from the Victorian era, known for its harmony of taste and texture. The name russet refers to the fine sand-paper like quality of the skin; a trait that is generally out of favour amongst the supermarket varieties but that has a dedicated following among apple connoisseurs. This apple is known for its rich, nutty flavour and produces fruit from October through December. For pollination and better fruit, plant near 'James Grieve', 'Beauty of Bath', 'Irish Peach',  or 'Kerry Pippin'. Grown on M26 rootstock (height and spread 10-12 feet). Well-branched 2 year old trees. Bare root plants, available November to March only.

Philadelphus 'Belle Etoile'
'Belle Etoile' Mock orange

A wonderfully scented plant for early summer. The scent from this plant is hard to identify and utterly lovely - though the flowers are only in bloom for a few short weeks. However, this should't put you off planting it - its scent more than earns its keep in any garden. 'Belle Etoile' is a faily compact variety, making it suitable for small or medium-sized gardens. It can grow to approximately 120 cms high by over 2 metres wide. Tolerant of most garden conditions, it enjoys sun or light shade and moist but well-drained soil. When established it is tolerant of heavy or clay soils. Older and established plants can be kept looking good by chopping out up to a third of the woodiest shoots, from the base, each year. This will retain the arching, graceful shape and encourage blooms. This can be done after flowering. 2-3 litre container.

'Composphere' compost maker and tumbler

'Composphere' compost maker and tumbler

Another DYG first!. This is a very clever garden compost tumbler which can be beside you when you work - and then rolled back to its corner when your work is done. 'Tumbling' compost accelerates the speed of decomposition and helps to turn garden waste into useful compost for the garden. Items like grass clippings, vegetable peelings and other organic matter make great ingredients for compost. As these things decompose, the bacteria helping them to break down require oxygen to work effectively. The Composphere takes the hard work out of aerating compost as it is designed to be easily rolled around. The sphere has a flat section with drainage holes to prevent it from rolling away accidentally. Capacity: 315lt of material. It has grips and tread to help it to be easily moved around even when full. Dimensions: 76 cm x 61 cm x 43 cm (29.9in x 24 in x 16.9 in). Made from recycled, UV protected plastic. Nationwide delivery: standard delivery terms.
