'Tumbling' compost accelerates the speed of decomposition and helps to turn garden waste into useful compost for the garden. Items like grass clippings, vegetable peelings and other organic matter make great ingredients for compost. As these things decompose, the bacteria helping them to break down require oxygen to work effectively. The Composphere takes the hard work out of aerating compost as it is designed to be easily rolled around. It is important to add accelerator powder regularly to your Green Cone. This ensures that a healthy, active bacterial population is maintained at all times. We recommend a couple of shakes into your kitchen caddy every time it is emptied into your Green Cone.

The accelarator powder is basically a fertiliser for the bacteria. They accelerate the speed at which waste material is broken down. They do this by producing enzymes, which digest the different components of the waste, allowing the bacteria to absorb the waste as food and eventually convert it into CO2 and water. An easy to use compost system to safely compost all degradable kitchen waste all year round! The patented design of the Green Johanna means you do not have to know much about composting - with Green Johanna everyone can compost! It differs from the Green Cone in that it functions in the shade, whereas the Green cone should be placed in a sunny area. Naturally occurring micro-organisms, bugs and worms, together with oxygen and moisture do all the work. In the process heat is produced.

Green Johanna can compost two parts food waste to one part garden waste. All food waste including meat, fish and bones can be put in your Green Johanna. It should be installed in a shady part of the garden - in contrast to the Green Cone, which should be in a sunny area.

In colder or more northerly parts of Ireland, the process is improved with the addition of a 'winter jacket'. This stabilises the temperature in the Green Johanna, which allows the microbial activity to continue throughout the year. This is not necessary in milder, more southerly parts of the country.

Some very valuable micro-organisms work at temperatures as high as 65°C (150°F)! This is ”hot” composting - oxygen in the air is critical to the process. We deliver the Green Johanna throughout Ireland, complete with the following items:
