Lawn sand (ton bags) for top-dressing

Autumn is the best time to top-dress your lawn with sand. For anyone wanting that 'perfect lawn', top-dressing with sand is part of the process. This washed sharp golden sand + grit mixture is typically used on golf courses or sports pitches as well as for equestrian tracks. It should be evenly spread and worked into the grass to a depth of a quarter to half an inch. The turf should be cut hard and ideally aerated before the top dressing is applied - grass clipping should also be removed. After the sand is applied, the turf should be raked to pull the sand from any high areas and spread into any low areas. Top-dressing with sand is most suitable for lawns with heavy, compacted or clay soils. In areas with sandy soil a rootzone mix should be used instead, which incorporates some organic matter in the form of screened topsoil. It is also very useful as a base layer when laying a lawn over wet soil that needs a firm layer (2-3 cms) to make it more solid and improve drainage. One ton bag.
