Traditional sickle

A traditional, high quality sickle, made in the UK by Martindale of hot-rolled steel and with a wooden hadle, this traditional sickle is the ideal tool for cutting small patches of long grass or weeds. The inside of the curve is sharp and serrated, so that the user can draw or swing the blade against the base of the crop, catching it in the curve and slicing it at the same time. Because of the serrations, the sickle should not make contact with the soil or stones as this can damage the serrations. It takes some practice to get the hang of, and the cutting is done by drawig the blade along plants with a quick flick of the wrist. We find it a most effective tool for the control of docks, thistles etc. CAUTION: extremely sharp point and not suitable for use near children or pets.
