Korean fir, 구상나무, Gusang namu (Korean)
Grow your own Christmas Tree! Korean fir is a small to medium sized conifer which is a popular and ornamental garden plant. It makes an ideal 'living Christmas tree' for the garden, and because of its relatively compact size it is suitable even for smaller gardens. It has dense evergreen foliage and a tapering habit (ie wider at the base than the top) and an abundance of upright-pointing purplish cones in autumn and winter. Even younger plants produce cones. It should not be pruned or trimmed. It prefers a sunny or lightly shaded spot in fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Ultimate height: 3-4 metres high with a spread of 1.5 metres. Supplied in a 2-3 litre container approx 45 cms tall.

| Acacia dealbata
Mimosa, Silver wattle
Acacia dealbata is the most widely grown Acacia in Ireland - commonly known as 'Mimosa'. It is a very fast-growing small tree with green, fern-like foliage and powder-yellow pom-pom like flowers in winter and spring. Acacia dealbata are excellent planted near the coast, but as they can grow rather fast, be prepared to cut it down to half its height within the first year or two, which will help it to mature into a more stable plant. An ideal plant for fast screening, but not for the very small garden as it can fill in after a few years. Plant in well-drained soil. 120-160 cms tall plants. 5L container. This item available in Dublin, Kildare and Wicklow only.

| Acer campestre
Field maple (bare root plants)
The Field maple is a small tree which can be planted in hedgerows or be kept clipped to form a tidy hedge. It has small, maple-like leaves which turn a vivid yellow in autumn. It is resistant to cold and wind and is very suitable as a fast-growing and attractive shelter-belt tree: it is frequently planted along roadsides because of its adaptability and relatively compact size - maximum height is 15-20 metres. Although sometimes regarded as a native tree, it is in fact native to Northern Europe and Southern England. It prefers moist, fertile soil and sun or light shade. Bare root plants 60-90 cms tall, Available November - March only.

| Agapanthus africanus
Cape lily
Agapanthus have a great flower: tall, round and dark blue to purple. They are long-lived, resilient and excellent near the sea - and also very successful in containers. Flowers are large, nodding, deep purple globe-like balls which hover over the rest of the plant on long leafless stalks. This is an excellent choice for a pot or container as blooming seems to be more prolific when the plant is confined to a small space. This plant is also very tolerant of sea conditions and poor dry soils. Plant in full sun for best blooms. Blooming occurs over a long period of time beginning in mid-summer. 2-3L container.
