Armeria maritima
Sea thrift

This is an iconic native Irish plant which grows all along our shores. As its name implies this plant thrives by the sea; tolerating heavy winds, salt and wet conditions. In the wild it can often be seen growing amongst rocks and tidal pools where it regularily gets doused in sea water and whipped by gale-force winds. It biggest flush of flowers occurs in early spring, but it continues to bloom sporadically throughout the summer.

Price per group of six plants in small 9cms containers.

Libertia formosa
Libertia, Snowy mermaid

This is an elegant, stately plant, with long narrow evergreen dark green leaves and arching sprays of clear white flowers. It can be grown in dense sweeps in front of shrubs, under trees or as a specimen amongst smaller, more delicate flowers. A most useful plant in that it tolerates a wide range of soil conditions and grows well in sun or partial shade. It rarely needs fussing over and can be left to its own devices for long periods, although cutting out dead flower stalks before they go to seed will help bring more flowers the following year. 2 litre container.

Tulbaghia violacea 'Variegata'
Tulbaghia

This is a lovely little plant, very like Agapanthus in its looks, but smaller and more delicate. It blooms month after month during the summer and all the way into late autumn. Although it smells very strongly of onion it is not edible and should not be planted where it get lots of brushing against as the onion smell can be very overpowering. This is an excellent choice for a pot or container as it tolerates dry conditions very well and seems to bloom better when confined. This plant prefers well-drained, poor soils.
