Lady's mantle
A low, clump-forming perennial plant with delicately hairy leaves and small, lime-green flowers all summer long. Water sits beautifully on the leaves after rain or dew. Grows best in very well-drained soil, in cracks, crevices or gravel, where it will thrive and seed itself from place to place. Very drought tolerant. Cut back flowers and foliage to almost ground level in the autumn when leaves start to look messy. 2-3 L container.

Aubretia 'Purple Cascade'
Aubretia

A mat or mound-forming perennial plant which grows to around 10 cms high. This evergreen plant has beautiful small purple flowers in early summer, and grows best in well-drained soil or rockeries, ideally spilling over edges or down walls. Best in full sun or light shade.

Dalmatian bellflower

A lovely little flower which often springs up in cracks and crevices, especially around Dublin city where it spills over low walls. It is a small perennial alpine plant which grows best in well-drained soil, in full sun or light shade. Can grow in cracks in walls or paving, where it will spill or mound in attractive way. Evergreen, height to 15 cms.

A mat-forming evergreen perennial grown for its silver-grey foliage and masses of pink flowers in summer. Grow best in areas with verywell-drained soil, on the top of a wall or in a crevice, or in a well-drained container mulched with grit. Requires full sun or partial shade. Height to 10 cms, but can spread over the ground to cover over 30 cms.

Sold in a group of six plants in small 9 cms / alpine containers.

Sempervivum 'Lavender and Old Lace'
House leek, Hens and Chicks

Smokey grey, changing to blue and lavender rosettes, with silver hairs along leaf margins. Produces a generous amount of 'chicks'. Drought tolerant and a great addition to rock or trough gardens and containers. Ideal for tops of walls, cracks or crevices with very little soil - an excellent evergreen ground cover. Requires full sun and very well-drained soil.

Thymus serpyllum
Thyme, Ground cover thyme

One of the best plants for a flat, low-maintenance carpet in a hot or dry area. A creeping thyme with scented, trailing stems, which grows best in full sun in very well-drained soil. Can grow well in cracks or crevices. Plant this plant somewhere where you will brush against its leaves to release its lovely scent. Masses of small flowers in crimson or white in summer. The picture here shows it growing around a pot in a garden in Dalkey, Co Dublin. Small 9 cms pots.
