Rubus idaeus 'Glen Prosen'
Raspberry 'Glen Prosen'
This variety of raspberry is known for its prolific crop of very firm, full-flavored fruit which it produces from mid-July. Raspberries should be planted in full-sun or partial shade and prefer moist acidic soil, although they will grow almost anywhere save very heavy clay or rocky/sandy soil. As with all summer fruiting raspberries, fruit appears on the previous year's canes, which should be tied up to stakes in spring in order to support the summer crop. Canes which have fruited should be cut back to ground level just after fruiting and each plant should be given a top-dressing of well-rotted manure. 5 canes per pot. Available November to March only.

Rubus talwanicola
Tayberry
A cross between blackberry and raspberry, tayberries produce a very large berry similar to that of the loganberry, but with a much sweeter and more aromatic flavour. Like loganberries, they are very good for cooking with and making jam, but because of their sweetness, they are also suitable for eating raw. Plants should be trained against a wall or on a trellis and canes which have fruited can be cut back in late autumn. Plant in full-sun or light-shade in any garden soil. 2L container.

Rubus x loganbaccus
Loganberry 'Thornless Loganberry'
This is a relative of both raspberries and blackberries. Loganberries have large, long, cone-like berries which are borne in mid-July all the way through until the end of August. They are best eaten when the berries have turned a lovely burgundy-red colour and are ideal for cooking or freezing, as they keep their shape and have a very rich flavour. This is a very vigorous plant which needs training either against a fence or on a trellis. Canes which have fruited can be cut down in October. Plant in full-sun or light-shade in any garden soil. 2L container.

Sambucus nigra
Elder, An Trom (Irish), Elderberry
A rounded shrub or small tree, the elder is a useful and attractive plant, providing flowers for cordials and berries for wines and syrups. Yet is traditionally an unlucky plant, associated with bad deeds of the fairies. Its creamy white flowers, when steeped with sugar and boiled make a most delicious drink. Elder's poor reputation also rests on the fact this it grows like a weed, and along with nettles is somethig of a coloniser of disturbed ground. However, few sights are as beautiful as a hillside dotted with elder in creamy bloom, and it makes an ideal hedgerow plant. Plant in almost any spot, though fondest of nitrogen-rich, fertile spots such as dung heaps and around farmyards! Sold in bundles of 10 bare-root plants, November to March only.

Vaccinium corymbosum
Highbush blueberry

Delicious, nutritious and easy-to-growfruit for your garden or container. These blueberry bushes produce larger and sweeter berries than our native 'Frocken' plants, and these are the blueberries you see when you buy them in the shops. The shrub tolerates a wide range of soils, including clay, though it must retain some moisture all year round. They prefer acidic soil, so if you don't have this, plant in either a raised bed or container where you can add some peat to the soil or into ericaceous compost. Plant in full sun or light shade - we have planted them around the edge of our garden. Blueberries are also very decorative, with clusters of white blossom in spring and glossy green foliage which is at its most attractive when it turns reddish-bronze in autumn. For best fruiting, plant in pairs. 3L container.
