Planter: lead-grey window box - 'Chelsea Trough'
This is one of the most popular window boxes available. Made of lightweight 'Fibre-Clay' (a mixture of natural clays over a fibre base) which is strong, lightweight and elegant, suitable for windowsills, along railings or at the base of walls. Click on the image on the right to see how we used these planters to bring a roof garden to life. Bear in mind that plants in containers dry out faster than in the ground, and that you should use the best compost available. Choose a size which is able to sustain plants over a long period and remember that larger sizes don't dry out as quickly as smaller ones. For most plants, we suggest a mixture of John Innes No 2 compost and 20% Gee-up soil improver. Five sizes are available (dimensions in cms, L x B x H): Small 50 x 16 x 18; Medium 60 x 23 x 23; Large 70 x 29 x 28; Extra Large 80 x 36 30: Jumbo 100 x 36 30.

Pot: square, lightweight dark grey / lead
|
Pot: square, lightweight dark grey / lead
Very classic, these square pots are ideal for balconies, terraces and roof gardens because they have a wide base and will not blow over in the wind. They are made of a non-chipping, lightweight material called fibreclay (natural clay over a fibreglass base) which makes them easy to transport and carry. For larger plants such as bamboos or olives, we recommend larger sizes as they do not dry out as fast as smaller pots, and contain enough weight to make them very stable. The smaller pots are ideal for herbs, smaller shrub, climbers and bulbs. Available in 2 sizes: 55 x 55 cms (large); 65 x 65 cms (extra large) This item available in Dublin, Kildare and Wicklow only.

Pot: tall square Rajburi terracotta
|
Pot: tall square Rajburi terracotta
These tall square pots are wonderfully plain and are ideal for larger plants in a confined space. Thet are deep and solid enough to sustain plants for longer periods, and being flat-sided they can go against a wall with minimum waste of space. For larger evergreen plants, the large pot is suitable for plants such as bamboo - we recommend species such as Fargesia 'Bimbo' or Fargesia 'Asian Wonder', where they will be happy for many years. Other suitable plants for larger pots such as these include Camellia, Japanese maple or Pieris (in shadier, sheltered areas) or Phormium, Agapanthus or Pinus mugho in sunnier areas. They would also make ideal pots for climbing plants on balconies or terraces as they can go flat against a wall and are large enough to sustain climbers such as Clematis, Wisteria or Honeysuckle over a prolonged period. Please see our notes on choosing the right compost and other other planting tips for pots. Two sizes are available: Small: 27 cms wide x 27 deep x 43 cms high. Large: 44 cms wide x 44 cms deep x 64 cms high. This item available in Dublin, Kildare and Wicklow only.
